3D Asset Details for Landscape Noise

The Landscape Noise tool allows you to add procedural noise to the landscape and “break” the geometry elements that come from the initial blocking. While working with an heightmap as origin for the landscape, this step might be bypassed.
The stash system implemented in this tool, will allow for multiple iterations of noise, while retaining procedural control over the current iteration, without having to close and reopen the tool.

Steps:
1. Select the working landscape from the dropdown menu and press the Initialise button to prime the tool. You’ll get a message “Initialisation complete.”
2. Press the Stash button to save in memory the current iteration. You’ll get a message “Stash saved.”
3. Choose the mask type from the dropdown menu. Options are:
a. Full Mask (default): automatic selection of the part of the landscape with elevation data higher than 0.
b. No Mask: selects all the landscape.
c. Noise Mask: noise-controlled mask intersecting with the Full Mask.
d. Paint Mask: custom paintable mask. NB: to be implemented
4. Set the noise controls to your liking.
5. Close the tool or press the Stash button to start a new iteration.
The tool auto-cooks on parameter change. In case of necessity a recook can be forced by pressing the ReCook button.
Noise Controls:
• Noise Type: The type of noise to generate, Different algorithms generate patterns with different characteristics.
• Amplitude: Scales the amount of vertical displacement.
• Element Size: Scales the noise pattern outward across the grid.
• Lacunarity: The frequency increment between iterations of fractal noise added to the basic output. Note you can use negative values.
• Roughness: Fractal roughness. The roughness parameter determines the coarseness of the noise.
When working with a Noise Mask, you can control its specific setting in the Noise Mask Controls submenu.

• Lacunarity: The frequency increment between iterations of fractal noise added to the basic output. Note you can use negative values.
• Roughness: Fractal roughness. The roughness parameter determines the coarseness of the noise.
• Gain: Lightens or darkens the highlights and dark areas from the of the noise function’s colour values. Gain amplifies dark areas when it is less than 0.5 and favours light areas when greater than 0.5. The parameter ranges between 0 and 1.

After completing the noise setup. Move back to the Landscape Mode and delete the fullmask and mask paint layers.

Then fill the base layer to have a white landscape and avoid possible issues with the erosion process.
